review

The Logitech Wireless Gaming Headset G930 is perhaps the most impressive wireless headset to enter the market yet. It delivers great audio and, despite its tendency to cut out sometimes, has an impressive range of features. Still, it costs quite a pretty penny and this alone might make gamers choose a less stellar but more affordable headset.

In Depth With the Logitech Wireless Gaming Headset G930
“Level Up Without Being Tied Down”

The Logitech company has always been known as one of the more respectable developers of third-party game accessories. It was with great fanfare, then, that the Logitech Wireless Gaming Headset G930 debuted. Any gamer fiddling with the sticks these days knows that FPS multiplayer shooters are all the rage and, if you truly want an immersive experience when playing these fast-paced games, you'll need a good headset to discuss strategy with teammates. Unfortunately, a quality wireless headset has always been a hard thing to come by. Does the G930 finally change this fact?

In a word: Kinda. Yes, there is plenty about Logitech's new baby that screams quality. The battery life is quite impressive and can last several sessions with even the most addicted gamer. The signal is also quite powerful and can allow you to take a break during the game, walk to the bathroom (or elsewhere in your home) and still be connected to your fellow gamers. This is the sort of thing that wireless headsets have promised but only now are these claims close to coming true.

The sound quality is also rather impressive. The headset features 7.1 Dolby surround sound and a pretty  stunning subwoofer, all things considered. The noise-canceling feature is also a great aspect and it does a more than adequate job of making sure those pesky real-life annoyances are kept at bay, blockaded by a wall of glorious digital sound.

But a gaming headset is measured most by how well it delivers audio across the network. Though the G930 typically brings crisp, clear vocals forward, it has a tendency to cut out every now and then. Turning down the gain seems to help with this but in a perfect world we'd be able to hear each other no matter how much gain was in your headset or mine.

A lot of gamers may also gripe about the price. Plunking down over a hundred and fifty bucks for a wireless headset can be a bitter pill to swallow for players who are already paying over sixty dollars for a game. But the sad truth is that a fifty dollar headset will simply not deliver the quality that the G930 offers. If you're a dedicated gamer who wants the most out of his or her multiplayer mayhem, you might see the price tag as justifiable. If you're a casual gamer you might be fine making do with a less powerful headset.
