The GN 9350 is great way to stay on the phone while still being aware of your surroundings and multitasking.
The physical design of the GN 9350 is versatile and
comfortable. It comes with three
different options to mount it to your head: neckband, headband and
earhook. All options make the headset
feel lightweight and comfortable. The
desktop base isn’t too offensive; it’s about the surface size of a really big
coaster.
The earpiece battery provides nine hours of talk time, and
up to 120 hours of idle time (when it’s not on the base and not in use). Its microphone is designed to cut out
background noise and still deliver intelligible speech. The microphone volume adjuster is located with
the setup features on the base.
Setup features are navigated by an LCD screen on the
base. It’s hidden below the surface
plate. The plate keeps the LCD screen
and greater components conspicuous and safe from dust, coffee and other things.
You need a bit of tech wisdom to set up the GN 9350. The rolodex-style setup manual is not as
friendly as it looks. It takes 37 steps
to get this headset fully functioning.
Luckily, there is a flash presentation on their website, www.Jabra.com,
that animates how to set up the headset.
So, how well does it work? According to our office CEO who
uses it daily, it’s among the best she’s ever used. She enjoys using this headset because voices
come in clear and it sits comfortably.
Also, its range is up to 300 feet, enough to walk outside the
building. However, when I used the GN 9350,
I started to lose reception at about 50 feet.
Some user functions included on the actual earpiece include
muting, volume control and answering and hanging up calls. Up to four of these units can link together
for conference calls, as well.
Among very few complaints about this unit, there is a delay
when you pick the earpiece up from its base.
There’s about a two second pause from when you pick up the piece to when
the phone engages. When you put it back
down, the same delay happens before it disengages the phone.
My problem with the GN 9350 is inherent with most headsets:
there’s only one earpiece. The headset
only fits onto your right ear, which leaves Lefty out of the loop. I know the point of a headset is to keep one
ear with the office, but after a short while my whole head started to tilt like
a dying fish.
The GN Netcom GN 9350 is available at any major online
electronics retailer, including Amazon.com, for around $250. National electronic depots like Circuit City
or Best Buy may not carry it, but you should be able to find it in local small
business supply stores. For more info,
