Overall, not a bad investment to free yourself from wires. The Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Headset Communicator fulfills its promise of great wireless performance. Its price and battery life may be a turnoff for some gamers, though.
I have a cord problem, seriously there are far too many
cords in my living room, and frankly those little cord ties are not doing the
trick. From my stand point, if I can go wireless and keep most of the original
functionality of the product, I’ll do it. So I was excited to bring the
Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Headset Communicator into my gaming setup.
Any Xbox live addict knows you need a headset. While it’s
possible to play games like Halo2 without one, screaming at your
teammates/opponents really adds to the thrills.
There’s nothing wrong with the stock headset that comes with your Xbox
360 (package dependant), it does its job well. So the wireless upgrade is for
the sole purpose of going wireless; there’s no extra functionality.
There were three main things I was concerned with when
trying the Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Headset Communicator: battery life,
range, and audio quality. The battery life of the 360 wireless communicator is
so-so. I got about seven hours total off a four-hour charge; there’s definitely
room for improvement here. The casual gamer will not be affected by the charge
time, but the hardcore might run out of juice mid-session. The range of the 360
wireless communicator is fine. There were no connection issues when sitting on
the couch in front of my Xbox. I wouldn’t recommend traveling around your house
with this; but really, why would you? Like the rest of the testing points,
audio quality is also on point. Neither stellar nor awful, the wireless headset
offers adequate audio that is definitely better than the performance of the
wired headset.
All in all, the Xbox 360 wireless communicator is a good buy.
It’s a little pricey (as are most Bluetooth gadgets), and doesn’t offer any
extra features; but if you’re tired of being tied down to your console it’s
definitely a worthy addition to your setup.
