The Good
These offer great sound quality and above-average microphone response. The lack of a headband makes portability easy. They’re even surprisingly comfortable. They’re not tight or too hard in the ear canal and I could actually wear these for some time.
The Bad
The earbuds may be too big for people with small ears. These aren’t noise-canceling ear pieces and that may be a problem for some people. It really depends on what you’re looking for
Great Performance From These Little In-Ears
Excellent performance plus an innovative delivery make for a great headset microphone.
Try finding a PC headset without the headband; it’s not easy. Unless you’re willing to spend the big bucks on a Bluetooth headset and receiver, you’re pretty much out of luck. This situation isn’t favorable for people who find the headbands on most headphones uncomfortable. That’s why I was so excited to find the Plantronics Audio 450.
The audio quality of these bad boys is great. Everything sounds sharp, and the bass is reproduced nicely. Of course, they don’t sound as good as very expensive headphones, but for their price they give a great performance. The earbuds are about the same size as the standard iPod earbuds. These aren’t noise-canceling so you don’t have to worry about finding a custom fit ear adaptor. This is both a positive and a negative. Granted, noise-canceling earbuds offer better sound over standard earbuds, but they also isolate you from the rest of the world, and personally I find the tight fit uncomfortable.
Unlike the headphones, the microphone is noise-canceling, and does its job well. The boom is adjustable and offers a useful, broad range, and even though there is no wind baffling, the sound doesn’t suffer. My friends who use Skype said I sounded clear and that there was no static on the line. I have also used this headset while playing World of Warcraft and the people on my Ventrillo server reported the same performance.
Overall, I really enjoyed my time with the Plantronics Audio 450 headset. I like it for light gaming, listening to music and talking to others over Skype and messenger programs. The versatility can’t be beat, especially for this price.
