Nokia
In 1865, mining engineer Fredrik Idestam made a wood pulp mill near the Tammerkoski rapids in Finland. Not long after, he built his second mill near Nokianvirta river, and the name Nokia originated from this location. Idestam became a great success by the 1860s when he brought a German paper manufacturing process to Finland. He has since been called the father of Finland’s paper industry. In 1871, he named the company Nokia AB, and by the 1900s, electricity generation was added to the business.
By the 1980s, Nokia had immersed itself into the telephone world, manufacturing phones and building the first international mobile phone network. In 1992, the company made a crucial decision that would lead them towards successful future: shifting their focus towards the telecommunications business. During the 1990s, Nokia launched many firsts and quickly took the driver’s seat in the mobile communications industry.
Today, Nokia is a renowned name that’s known by nearly everyone from any part of the globe. While they’ve gained great recognition for their mobile phones, the company also manufactures a number of wired and wireless headsets for cell phones.
